Danger can strike in an instant when we least expect it. But more often than not, danger comes from an escalation of events, and if we can recognize that escalation, we can protect ourselves. Thus, while we need to acknowledge that there is no way to be completely safe from harm, we can take steps to reduce the odds that we will be attacked.
By reading this book, you’ve tipped the odds in your favor. The more you think about your safety, the safer you will be. This does not need to be an exercise in paranoia. That is no way to live.
Instead, embrace the reality that we live in dangerous times. Think about how you can protect yourself. Prepare yourself for the most dangerous situation by having a plan, an escape route, and a weapon available to you at all times.
And above all trust your instincts — if a situation feels bad, it probably is bad. Forget notions of polite society and get out of there!
Have a continuing conversation with your parents and friends about your safety, practice your techniques regularly, and be inspired to get direct in-person training in self-defense. By virtue of the knowledge you have just received, you are changed and empowered and will view the world differently in ways that will keep you safer.
May you lead the safe and happy life you deserve!
